Writer Kurt Busiek explains what it took to bring together two of Sam Raimi's most popular creations, Ash and Darkman

For Darkman vs. The Army of Darkness, veteran scribes Kurt Busiek and Roger Stern strapped on chainsaws along with artist James Fry to produce the miniseries hitting shelves tomorrow. Recently, Busiek discussed his decade-long drive to arrange this cult-classic team-up. He also waxed poetic about his love of the comic duo, nuking Deadites from space, and why Sam Raimi [the director of the "Army of Darkness" and "Darkman" films] is so great.

(excerpt)

WIZARD: To begin, how did you get attached to working on Darkman vs. The Army of Darkness?
KURT BUSIEK: Well, it’s roots go way the hell back to when I was working on Darkman for Marvel back in the early 1990s. I wrote six issues of Darkman for them back then. [Artist] James Fry, he and I are old friends who have worked on a bunch of stuff together, and we talked and joked around and at some point we decided that the perfect team-up would be Darkman and Ash, his two favorite messed-up [Sam] Raimi heroes in one comic together. We decided that one of them is a heroic guy with a chin and the other one’s a brooding guy in a tattered cape that sneaks around on rooftops. It’s like World’s Finest… but on crack.
